Partnerships

Our community partners are one of the most important factors in our success. With the help of these partners we’re able to connect Calgarians with compassionate, accessible crisis support 24-hours a day.

Mobile Partners

Alberta Health Services Mobile Response Team (MRT) is a team of nurses, social works and psychologists who are ready to be dispatched to provide assistance in the community once a call has been made to Distress Centre.

  • Wood’s Homes – Community Resource Team (CRT)
  • Calgary and Area Child and Family Services Authority – Social Services Response Team (SSRT)
  • 9-1-1 Police & Fire
  • Canadian Mental Health Association Edmonton

7,276 calls were answered for our partner agencies, which was a 58.6% increase over 2017

Community Partners

Through an application process, our community partners provide Distress Centre with volunteer practicum students for 8-10 weeks so they can receive valuable work experience.

Immigrant Services Calgary (ISC)

The International Talent Acquisition Centre (In-TAC) Pre-Arrival Services project connects Canadian businesses to international talent within Canada and overseas, to help them grow and compete globally.

We partner with Immigrant Services Calgary and In-TAC by providing a work placement opportunity for their internationally educated professionals. We mentor the participant and provide them with an evaluation and a letter of reference at the end of the placement period.

Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association (CIWA)

Through our standing partnership with the Office Administration Program at CIWA, we provide a three month work placement opportunity for their clients who are high functioning, foreign-trained administrative professionals. We mentor the participant’s integration into the Canadian workplace, and after they successfully complete the three months we provide them with an evaluation and a letter of reference.

Our partnerships help strengthen the capacity of Calgary’s non-profit sector to connect with more people when they need it.
  • Neighbourlink re-directs their call line to 211 for after hour support.
  • Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse (CCASA) callers now connect to Distress Centre after hours by pressing “1”.
  • When Access Mental Health is over capacity, callers now have the option to press “zero” and connect directly to a Distress Centre volunteer.
  • Students at the University of Calgary and SAIT have the option to speak with a Distress Centre volunteer when they contact their respective Wellness Centres after hours.

Connecting with Calgarians in crisis. You never know who might need support. It could be someone you know. Help us keep up with the growing need for all our services.
